Indie Author of the Week!

Bobbi Buchanan





Bobbi Buchanan has led therapeutic writing workshops for inmates and others in recovery from addiction and trauma since 2013. She promotes a self-care regimen of unplugging, communing with nature, and journaling. A poet and author, Buchanan taught college writing at Jefferson Community and Technical College and now teaches English at Valley High School in Louisville. She launched and ran a literary journal, New Southerner, for more than 10 years, and she edited and published seven volumes of creative works by inmates while teaching therapeutic writing and life skills at the Bullitt County Detention Center. She is a Kentucky Foundation for Women grant recipient and led a writing workshop for troubled youth at YouthBuild as part of HEAL Smoketown, a nonprofit effort by artists to improve community connection and health in Louisville’s first and oldest historically Black neighborhood.

Ink Happens Signing Event with Author Melody K Smith-

May 9th from 12pm-4pm in Shepherdsville location 


Melody K. Smith is a lifelong creative. She channels her passion for storytelling into fiction that stirs the soul and sparks the imagination. When she isn’t writing, she’s elbows-deep in crafts, mixed media, and curated chaos. Her home is part art studio, part sanctuary and part tasting room where bourbon and tequila are appreciated like fine poetry and poured with purpose.

She’s an avid traveler and seeker of soulful experiences, guided by a spirituality that celebrates beauty, intention and connection. Melody rescues dogs, throws legendary dinner parties and believes that joy is a creative act. Whether on the road, at her crafting table, or beneath the stars with a good drink in hand, she’s always collecting stories and living a few worth telling.





Ink Happens Signing Event with Author Lynn Slaughter-

May 30th from 12pm-4pm in La Grange location


Lynn Slaughter is addicted to the arts, chocolate, and her husband’s cooking. After a long career as a professional dancer and dance educator, she returned to school to earn her MFA in Writing Popular Fiction from Seton Hill University. Her novels have received numerous accolades, including a Moonbeam Silver Medal, an Agatha nomination, Silver Falchion Award, Imadjinn Award, and a finalist nomination for CIBA’s Dante Rossetti Award in young adult fiction. Midwest Book Review called her work, Missing Mom, a “remarkable book” that “invites readers to immerse themselves in a narrative that beautifully captures the essence of struggle and triumph.” Meantime, Lynn is excited to have recently released her debut middle grade novel, an identity-swapping fantasy, The Big Switch: Varney and Cedric
