Indie Author of the Week!Leah PughGrowing up surrounded by storytellers and books, Leah developed a love of reading at an early age. After graduating high school, she pursued an English Literature degree at Jefferson Community College. She dabbled in writing and was thrilled when her first novel, The Diamond Caper, was published. The second book and third books, Anything But A Diamond and Houston, We Have a Problem, soon followed. After becoming a mom, she wrote three picture books: The Day Please Slept In, Something Warm For Grandma, and King Robert the Wet. Something Warm for Grandma won The Written Word Award 2021. Her short story, The Voice, was published in The 2023 Writer’s Block Anthology with her next short story, Redeeming Fire, was published separately. She eventually returned to her mystery writing roots with Curse of the Dragon’s Flame. When she’s not writing, she spends time with her family, has her nose in a book, or enjoys a cup of tea.

One of the children said, “God is fat.” That concept, not that God is an overweight being, but that God is so immense as to be literally beyond description, exploded in my mind.” I grew up in a mainstream church that my parents attended. The church had an active youth group and, as an older teen, I became very involved in the church becoming a “senior altar boy”. I also attended a number of weekend retreats for teens during my high school years. This, of course, included Sunday School including Bible reading and lesson plus the prayer book and hymnal. As a result, I entered college as a theology major intending to become a minister. However, by the end of my freshman year, two things occurred that changed my mind about becoming a minister: The first was the self-realization that I would not be able to live the exemplary life of a minister. The second, more importantly, was that after completing a course title “Comparative Religions” I realized that when you strip away all of “stuff” that people have piled on the religions of the world, they all have the same basic message – what we call “the Golden Rule” – in very similar wording. I changed majors and graduated with a teaching degree. That career path change did not, however, change my considerable interest in religion and spirituality: Over the next 50 plus years I read dozens of books on those subjects, attending classes, and being involved in a number of discussion groups. I continue to learn to this day. Beginning in college I began to express my thoughts in the form of poetry and that has continued all these years. Several years ago, several friends with whom I shared my thoughts through poetry recommended that I put my work into a book. I began to do so without knowing what to title the book until it came to me as I described.
